Day 1: Depart U.S.
Upon arrival at Managua International Airport, we will be met and transferred to Granada City. A colonial town known for its red-tiled roofs, grand cathedrals, tropical flora, and cafe culture, Granada is Nicaragua’s most picturesque town. Check in at the hotel.
Free time for the rest of the evening.
Day 2: Granada City Tour and Kayaking at Nicaragua Lake
After breakfast, we begin our day with a city tour through the colorful streets of Granada and enjoy visiting the most important places of the city in a traditional horse and carriage ride. We then continue to Lake Nicaragua for a kayaking tour in the islets. Late afternoon return to the hotel.
Day 3: Mombacho Volcano Nature Reserve – Coffee Farm – Masaya Volcano – León
After breakfast, we begin the day visiting the Natural Reserve Mombacho Volcano near Granada City. Hike or ride to the top of the volcano, enjoy trekking around the crater, or through the cloud forest in the lush ecosystem and take in the stunning views. We then visit a coffee farm located in Carazo named “Concepcion,” and enjoy a cup of coffee made from their hand-picked beans. Continuing along our way to León City we will visit the Masaya Volcano National Park, the first and largest national park in the country. The volcano is a complex system of calderas and craters, which includes the active crater Santiago.
Day 4: León – Chichigalpa
Following breakfast, we will visit the city’s important cathedral and museums. We will then continue on to the rum distillery “Flor de Caña,” learn about their slow aging process of making rum, and of course enjoy a taste of this quality, sustainable Nicaraguan product.
Day 5: Volcano Cerro Negro – Juan Venado Island
We will have an early morning call to visit the impressive volcano Cerro Negro, the youngest volcano in Central America, first making its appearance in 1850. We will hike the trail, take in the magnificent view, and then descend with an exhilarating “sand boarding” ride down the volcanic ash. Later that day, we will enjoy a tranquil boat tour through the tropical Juan Venado Island Nature Reserve, teeming with stunning vegetation and incredible wildlife. Here is an opportunity to swim in the Pacific Ocean from one of the islands’ untouched beaches. Return to hotel for a group dinner.
Day 6: León – Catarina & San Juan de Oriente – Morgan’s Rock
Departure from León and transfer to the colorful and beautiful city of San Juan del Sur. On the way, we will stop at the “pueblos blancos” of Catarina and San Juan de Oriente. The white villages are small pueblos known throughout the country as representing all things Nicaraguan with strong pre-Columbian roots and traditions. They are so-named because of the traditional whitewash on the houses, carburo, which is made from water, lime and salt. In both towns you will see the artisan traditions of hammocks, furniture, ceramics, stone carvings, leather work, ornamental plants and more. Catarina boasts breathtaking views over the blue waters of Lake Apoyo. We will arrive by boat at our beautiful bayside ecolodge.
Day 7: Morgan’s Rock
You will have two full days to relax and enjoy the perfect blend of nature and comfort in the natural luxury of this ecolodge, whose boundaries span a 4,000-acre jungle and a mile-long private white sand tropical beach, frequented year-round by nesting sea turtles. The private reserve-portion of the forested land hosts a variety of exotic animals including spider, howler and capuchin monkeys, as well as native and migrant birds and reptiles. Be as active or as inactive as you choose with options for horseback riding, kayaking, surfing, sport fishing, “monkey quest,” yoga and massage. Or just relax and enjoy the outstanding local food, the spectacular views of the ocean, and the sounds of birds and monkeys. Morgan’s Rock has its own farm with chickens, cows, fruit and vegetable gardens, and even a sustainable shrimp farm. 60% of its food is sourced right from on the premises.
Day 8: Morgan’s Rock
Another day at leisure in this private and secluded tropical paradise.
Day 9: Depart to U.S.
Say ‘Adios’ to Nicaragua. Transfer to Managua International Airport and depart to US.
Hotel El Convento, Léon
The San Francisco Convent was founded in the city of León in 1639 by the Reverend Brother Pedro de Zúñiga. It was the first convent in the city.
In 1995 the Hotel El Convento project began with the purchase of the site. The construction followed a design which sought to respect the architectural and colonial features of the building as well as incorporating the requirements of a modern hotel.
We take great care over the flavor and presentation of every dish of International cuisine served in our restaurant. El Victoriano offers gourmet cuisine to be enjoyed at lunchtime or at dinner in an intimate atmosphere, with excellent service, in the heart of the city.
Morgan's Rock Hacienda and Ecolodge
Located on a private beach and surrounded by tropical dry forest, Morgan's Rock provides the perfect blend of nature and comfort. Relax and enjoy the outstanding local food, the spectacular views of the ocean, and the sounds of birds and monkeys. Horseback riding, kayaking, surfing, sport fishing, 'monkey quest', yoga and massages are among the many activities available.
Hotel Plaza Colón, Granada
It was the home of many of the renowned families of Granada, the last of which decided to transform the house into a hotel. The three neighboring properties were acquired, taking special care in keeping the style and architecture of the original house. The current facade of the hotel is the same as it was in the beginning of the 19th century.
Hotel Plaza Colón is the first hotel in Granada to obtain the Rainforest Alliance Certification. This certification supports our commitment to the sustainable development of the community.
