Day 1: Depart U.S.
Arrive at Managua International Airport, transfer to León City. Check in at Hotel el Convento
Free afternoon depending on flight arrivals.
Day 2: León – Chichigalpa
After breakfast explore the city of León including the Our Lady of Grace Cathedral.
Continue to the Rum Distillery “Flor de Caña” where you will observe the aging process and of course enjoy a taste of this quality, sustainable Nicaraguan product. Overnight at Hotel el Convento
Day 3: Volcano Cerro Negro – Juan Venado Island
Early in the morning visit the impressive young volcano Cerro Negro. After a steep hike, see the magnificent views before sandboarding down the side of the volcano!
Aquatic birds and exotic flora will delight you on our boat ride through the mazes of mangroves at the Juan Venado Nature Reserve. You can also take advantage of the opportunity to swim in the Pacific Ocean before we return to the hotel and get ready for dinner. Overnight at Hotel el Convento
Day 4: National Park Volcano Masaya – San Juan del Sur
We leave León and journey to San Juan del Sur, a beautiful bay on the Pacific Ocean. On the way we visit the Masaya Volcano National Park with its steaming active crater Santiago. Continuing on to Masaya Town the ‘city of flowers’, we will have free time at the famous Masaya Arts and Crafts Market. In the afternoon visit the ‘pueblos blancos’ or white villages of Catarina and San Juan de Oriente. The white villages are so-named because of the carburo whitewash used on the houses. Each town has its own artisan crafts including hammocks, furniture, leather work, stone carvings, ceramics and ornamental plants. In Catarina we reach one of the highest hills in the region with a magnificent observation point overlooking the Apoya Lagoon. Day 5: Morgan’s Rock
Located on a private beach and surrounded by tropical dry forest, Morgan’s Rock provides the perfect blend of nature and comfort. Relax and enjoy the outstanding local food, the spectacular views of the ocean, and the sounds of birds and monkeys. Horseback riding, kayaking, surfing, sport fishing, ‘monkey quest’, yoga and massages are among the many activities available. Overnight at Morgan’s Rock
Day 6: Morgan’s Rock
Free day to enjoy the Ecolodge. Nearly half of this 4,000 acre property has been designated as a private reserve. Morgan’s Rock has its own farm with chickens, cows, fruit and vegetable gardens, and even a sustainable shrimp farm. 60% of its food is sourced right from on the premises. Be as active or inactive as you choose. Overnight at Morgan’s Rock
Day 7: Morgan’s Rock – Granada
Travel to the colonial town of Granada. Known for its red-tiled roofs, grand cathedrals, tropical flora, and cafe culture, Granada is Nicaragua’s most picturesque town. Ride in a traditional horse drawn carriage to the most important places in the city. Continue to Lake Nicaragua to enjoy lunch and kayaking in the islets. Overnight at Hotel Plaza Colon
Day 8: Mombacho Volcano Nature Reserve
Visit the Mombacho Volcano Nature Reserve. Hike or ride to the top of the volcano to take in the views. Trek around the crater, or through the cloud forest, spotting wildlife along the way. Visit the ‘Concepcion’ coffee farm in Carazo and enjoy a cup of hand-picked coffee before returning to Granada. Overnight at Hotel Plaza Colon
Day 9: Depart to U.S.
Say ‘Adios’ to Nicaragua. Transfer to the international airport and depart to U.S.
