More Galapagos lava!

Of the 24 times Sunny has ventured to the Galapagos, one unusual, intriguing blanket of black lava intrigues her. Sunny studies the lava to find a photographic story, a hidden picture and a meaning that has been left for over a hundred years to discover. Sunny said one little girl on the trip with her Susannah, had an absolute ball running around the lava, climbing in the lava tubes, and pointing out faces in its detailed formations. The lava was formed when in 1897 the Sanitago island volcano erupted. The lava, now in Sullivan Bay is known as “panoehoe” type lava, Hawaiian for rope. Some cute iguanas and Sally light foot crabs are seen on the lava, and also, the lava cactus! Let us know what you see in these lava photos!

Henna

I was looking through some of Sunny’s photos and I thought the ones she had from India were really cool! This photo amazed me with the colors, the jewels and especially the henna! My friends came back from the beach this summer with a henna sun drawn on their hands and I was really impressed with how good it looked…until I saw this photo! In India its tradition to have henna for celebrations, festivals, and weddings. How cool is that?

Solomon Islands sailing

Hey everyone. This photo was taken at this years 19th annual Screwpile Lighthouse Regatta at Solomons Island. Sunny was the photographer during a day race on the boat Pegasus which finished 7th in their class. The tricky part was keeping the camera dry, staying out of the crew’s way and not going over board! Sailing has always intrigued Sunny whether being a crew member and working or just relaxing with a cold beer and simply enjoying the seascape!

Hayley

Hey everyone! I’m Hayley. I’m excited to start sharing with you all the cool things I get to see and hear from working with Sunny. I’m going to be a senior at Fauquier High School next year, where I participate in activities ranging from being a tri-season athlete to starting my 9th year playing Viola. I love working for Sunny because I get to explore the artistic side of photography as well as learning about the places she travels to!

Galapagos Lava

Hey everyone! Yesterday Sunny and I were editing some photos, and I was fascinated with the pictures she took from her last trip, the Galapagos Islands.  Among seeing pictures of Marine Iguanas, shrimp-pink flamingos, and blue-footed boobies, I was especially enthralled with the Sullivan Bay lava photos. As I looked at the petrified black carpet covering the island, I couldn’t help but but wonder about the now mysteries that were covered up. The intricate patterns and markings only give a subtle clue as to what was there a little over a hundred years ago. In one picture Sunny captures a little girl from the trip Susannah, climbing in a lava tube, another mystery as to what caused the lava to cool into these abstract designs!

Sunny Reynolds here!

Its been, and still is an unbelievable odyssey combining the travel business with professional photography for a career. I got started taking a few black and white photography classes undergrad at Syracuse University. I worked in the financial field for a few years  before I took the first step into opening Studio 19 Photography. I enjoy taking pictures of people in their environment and abstract designs found in nature and ordinary subjects. My aim in travel for my clients is to present not only unparalleled wildlife encounters, but also unique insight and knowledge as to the ways and workings of the land, the people, the culture and the environment of each expedition. Being a photographer  fine tunes my senses. When traveling they seem to be on overload, but I use them to narrow in and anticipate, if you will, to help me capture a picture at an exact moment. I am able to calculate the perfect angle, lighting, texture, design and depth of field using my  Nikon equipment. For me, travel and photography are one.   I have my summer side kick Hayley Dodds with me and we will be blogging about the photos, travel experiences and creativity. So go head, start following me!
